T and R

T is more stable (lower affinity to O2) b/c its has greater ion pairs and another thing I noticed is that is has larger 'pocket' between beta subunits

Why would the R state have a smaller pocket bewteen b subunits? (That does not seem conducive to having a higher affinity to O2)
