When someone goes to jail, the entire family unit is affected. Money coming in for the family is cut in half or totally gone and bills begin piling up. If kids are involved, the other parent is in charge of taking care of them on their own. If they were employed, the other employees have to pick up the slack and there is a good chance the job will not be there when they get out. In many cases, finding a place to live where the family can afford becomes a nightmare. Friends are few and far between.
