1. Read the ‘Communication Challenge, Trusted Colleague’ in chapter three on page 71 of your textbook. Then answer the question listed “What are the advantages and risks of this approach?’ (referring to the third-party inquiry). Also discuss a personal example of a time when you experienced the helpfulness of information from a colleague (third party) but also experienced the risk or fear of risk when taking this approach. 

2. In chapter three of our text we learn about outcomes of the encounter phase and boundary passages. According to our text, what are boundary passages (be sure to include the three different types of boundary passages in your discussion, functional, hierarchical, and inclusionary)?

3. Read the ‘Ethical Issue, Vocabulary of Hierarchy’ in chapter three on page 77 of your textbook. Then answer the question listed “How might those ways of speaking and thinking cloud our judgement about individuals’ intrinsic value and potential contribution to the organization? Also discuss a personal example of a time when you have experienced one of these metaphors and how it changed the way you spoke to others, clouded your judgement of yourself or others, questioned your value and/or affected your contributions to the organization.
