Question
As Christians, we assume that we should have control over our thoughts, which can directly impact our focus. Phil. 4:8-9 ESV states, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me – practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.”
- Consider the biblical basis for controlling one’s thoughts, including the importance of using the personality that God gave you (or passion for serving others) in balance with taking time to “retreat” and avoid compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, or burnout.
- Write a 1-page double spaced assignment addressing the following points:
- Using Scripture as your guide, highlight two (2) other biblical passages that support the idea that we should control our thoughts.
- What implications are there for avoiding compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma or burnout?
