This paper examines the chronic disease of obesity in the United States and discusses two healthcare policies in place to address it: the National Physical Activity Plan (NPAP) and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). The impact of obesity on the U.S. population and healthcare system is also explored, along with strategies in place to promote prevention and education about the disease through public health initiatives. Progress made in reducing health risks associated with obesity and challenges faced in preventing it are also discussed. Finally, the paper suggests two to three strategies to increase awareness, education, and prevention of obesity.
