Question
Social influence can promote positive attitudes and behaviors, but the flipside is also true. Social interactions can result in negative effects, including stereotyping and prejudice, or the adverse judgment or bias of another individual or group. Every society and social group has some form of prejudice within it, and it is important to not only recognize prejudice in ourselves and others, but also take actions to reduce it, as it contributes to other societal issues, such as discrimination.
- Write a 1-page double spaced response addressing the following questions:
- Is prejudice a naturally occurring phenomenon, or one that is socially created in all societies?
- How does prejudice develop, and what are the social implications of holding prejudiced beliefs against others in society?
