Erin Bell worked as a receptionist for several years but feels it is now time for a change. In recent months she has operated a business called ‘Erin Bell trading as Bell’s Treats’ making and selling pet treats at the local weekend market. Her pet treats are becoming more popular as satisfied customers tell others about her products and experiences. In fact, business is doing so well that Erin is repeatedly asking her friend, Tim, for help in both making the treats and in selling them at the market. Tim has been willing to help but is becoming annoyed that Erin is relying on him for free as the business grows. Erin is also aware that she cannot manage the growth of her business by herself anymore.
Tim proposes that they become partners. Erin isn’t sure if she is prepared to share decision making and seeks advice from you. She has thought about remaining a sole trader and employing someone to help her, or forming a partnership with Tim, or the possibility of forming a company.
