Police officers face many legally sanctioned methods to enforce criminal behavior that may be unethical. For example, finding a minor violation to stop a car in order to search it for criminal behavior. Officers may also face a path of unethical conduct based on a way of thinking that there are good and evil people and that their role is needed to correct and save the good people from the evil ones. People can become dehumanized and more an object of action. Negative feelings and low morale can impact an officer who decided on a career in law enforcement to help others. All these issues affect the ethics facing officers. Many of these may lead to other unethical issues. The concept of being the ones to enforce the law because the system is broken may have an overall negative impact in the overall system. Evaluating the potential causes of misconduct will help to address those issues in police work.
