Question

Imagine that you are walking outside and you soon notice a low “whirring” sound somewhere in the distance.  After a brief moment you realize that this sound you are hearing is the sound of a helicopter.  Soon you start looking to see where that sound is coming from.  You know it is above your head, but you are not sure where it is exactly.  Then after another moment, you listen closely and suddenly realize that the sound is from above and on your right side.  This entire process can happen extremely quickly and yet its results are significant.  In this brief amount of time your ears detect a sound, your brain identifies this sound, and then processes the location of the information.
