Alcohol and/or drug abuse often is co-morbid with other mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety.  One of the common reactions of one who may be accused of having a problem is denial – “I can quit anytime.”  Therefore, it is important for people helpers to be able to identify some of the symptoms of abuse in order to best treat someone who is looking for help.

• Consider either alcohol or drug use disorder.

  • the role tolerance plays in the disorder you choose
  • some withdrawal symptoms of the disorder you choose
