ONE: Week Three Devotional
This workshop includes the theories of Existentialism and Person Centered Therapy (Frankl and Rogers). According to Corey (2013, p. 146), existentialism ponders the following questions: “Who am I?” “What can I know?” “What ought I to do?” “What can I hope for?” “Where am I going?” Interestingly, Solomon asks these same questions in the book of Ecclesiastes. Solomon starts the book with the following:
“Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.” Ecclesiastes 1:1
He ends the book with his conclusion:
….here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing whether it is good or evil. Ecclesiastes 12:13b
As you prepare to engage with your peers for this devotional, consider how the Bible answers the questions posed by existentialists (listed above) for you. Ensure that you can provide some Scripture verses that answer the questions for you personally.
