cMinn ends the book with the comforting concept of redemption.  However, he points out that redemption is not a “technique.”  Rather he says, “Redemption is found not primarily in counseling techniques, but in the nature of a caring counseling relationship” (McMinn, 1996, p. 292).
How can the helper assist the client in experiencing redemption? This is what McMinn addresses in this chapter.  It is important from the first visit that a caring relationship needs to happen in order for change to take place.  Redemption is something that results from this caring.
