McMinn emphasizes the need for both psychological and spiritual health in the healing process.  Both are important to be addressed even though they may be so closely intertwined, it is difficult to know where one begins and the other ends.  This is why he believes both must be addressed in counseling.  Many other Christian counselors agree with this (Schregardus, 2007).  Schregardus believes the spiritual needs to be addressed as this is what gives meaning to one’s life which is a very basic need.  Yet, many counselors are not trained in how to integrate the spiritual and psychological (Schregardus); Review Schregardus' dissertation.
