quiz
Neukrug lists 6 hindrances to good listening and 10 “good” listening skills. Neukrug (2017) calls listening “one of the most difficult skills for Americans to learn…” (p. 51). The art of listening includes listening not only to what is said, but what is not said, tone of voice, non-verbal behaviors, etc. Rather than listening, we often want to give advice or tell our story (especially if it is more important than the other person’s story). Because of this, we miss what the other person is trying to tell us. However, we cannot help the other person if we are not willing to give up our need to talk and give him/her our gift of listening.
