Objective 2: Explain why working hard, soliciting feedback, and being humble helps to create outstanding practitioners.

The goal of this activity is to share how hard work, learning evidence-based practices, and self-reflection contribute to excellence. Nothing great was ever achieved without hard work! Humility is a coveted biblical trait and it works equally well in the counseling arena. Being humble enough to solicit feedback, not only from trusted colleagues, but clients as well, will help you become a more effective practitioner.

• Read the article by Lynne Shallcross from the American Counseling Association titled The Recipe for Truly Great Counseling.
• Write a 2 page paper describing what experienced practitioners have to say on this subject, adding your own thoughts to the mix.
• To achieve maximum points for content and analysis, the following elements need to be thoroughly addressed:
  • Summarize at least three opinions expressed in this article from any of the questions posed to experienced practitioners, adding your own thoughts as to why you agree or disagree with them.
  • Based on the information you are learning this week, answer the question from this article: What, overall, makes a great counselor? Reference your own experiences in the field and/or learning.
  • Explain how your Christian worldview supports your answer to this question . . . or not.
