The victim can impact a case both positively and negatively. It is difficult to prosecute a case with a victim who will not cooperate, such as in a domestic violence situation. Then there is the victim who wants to be so involved that it is difficult to handle the case without too much interference. Also consider whether or not we can ever really make certain victims “whole” again.

• Locate an Internet article (either type of article is fine) that discusses the victim’s role and the role of a victim’s advocate.
• In a one-page response describe the role of a victim and a victim’s advocate.
• Include how the role of a victim advocate can change from case to case based on the facts presented in each situation.
• Also discuss how the role can potentially be in conflict with other roles within the criminal justice system.
