Rightly ordered love, this is the cornerstone of spiritual formation. Humanity has demonstrated disordered love from the time of Adam and Eve until the present. From the first couple who sought to demonstrate their own autonomy from God by eating the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, humanity has consistently demonstrated that we care for ourselves first, others second, and God last of all. Scripture speaks the truth when it says, “In this is love, not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins” (1 John 4:10 ESV). In this discussion, we will be exploring the concept of rightly ordered love as one that is reciprocal and not our own.
First, we love God for who he is as creator and gracious savior. Second, we demonstrate his love for us by loving one another. Finally, we love ourselves as those broken by sin, but restored by his grace.
For your initial post, answer these questions based on your reading and provide evidence from scripture.
What does rightly ordered love look like in relation to God, others and ourselves? Write a paragraph on each (i.e., God, others, self) and support your position with scripture and appropriate quotes from the textbook.
