Anti-racism short paragraph
Anti-racism activism often works through multiple practices or tactics at one time. Different parts of a movement may be working through the courts, legislative bodies, or out in the streets. Activists may use speeches, the written word, digital and social media, traditional news media, direct action, protest, and other means to make their cause known to the general public. We could easily spend the entire course looking at different forms of anti-racist activism, weighing the positives and negatives of every tactic.
- Violent versus nonviolent protest (or both)?
- Direct action (such as sit-ins and other actions meant to disrupt the normal working of systems) versus "passive" forms of protest
- Who is the audience you are trying to reach, and what will help bring them to your side?
- As an activist, how can you control the ways that others see the public image of your movement or your issue?
- What role should allies/accomplices from the dominant group play in this movement?
- Are there any current types of activism against racism that you feel are particularly effective? Which ones? What makes them effective?
- Are there historical anti-racist movements that you find effective? Why?
you do NOT need to answer any or all of these questions. They are simply here to help you organize your thoughts and decide how to respond.
