Objective: Assess scholarly works related to the topic of human intelligence.

As we established earlier in the course, psychology is a science. However, science is not always exact or precise. Most concepts in psychology are multi-faced, complicated, and even controversial at times – the topic of intelligence is no exception. Have you ever considered the implications of intelligence testing? This brief video provides a quick overview of various intelligence theories and the controversies that have resulted from them. Both parents and educators must be careful to avoid labeling students based on intelligence test results. Have you, or someone you know, been positively or negatively impacted as a result of intelligence testing?

Instructions

Intelligence is measurable in different ways. However, we can also stunt our ability to learn and grow if we have a closed mindset. Can we reach our full potential according to God’s will if we do not possess a growth mindset? The Lord will often push us outside our comfort zone to advance us to the next level. Is there a correlation between mindset and intelligence?

• Watch Growth Mindset Introduction: What it is, how it works, and why it matters
• Using Discovery Services, locate two scholarly articles related to topics associated with intelligence. Use the “Terms & Concepts to Remember” at the end of your chapter review to help locate two topics related to intelligence. Your selected topics will guide your research.
• Write a ½-page summary for each article.  Personal reflection should not be added to a journal abstract review – students are only providing a summary of the articles. Direct quotes are not allowed in this assignment as you are sharing your synthesis of the information. Therefore, paraphrase information is required. Please make sure to include in-text citation for each summary.
• Format assignment using the OCU Template. Your paper should include an introduction about intelligence as well as a closing paragraph summarizing your reflection. Feel free to integrate a Biblical worldview and integrate scripture.
• This assignment should not exceed two pages.
• Note: The textbook, websites, and videos are not acceptable sources for this assignment. You are supposed to locate two scholarly (peer-reviewed) journal articles in Discovery Services. Both articles should be related to two separate topics associated with intelligence.
• Submit your review to the drop box titled Journal Abstract Review for your instructor.
