Essay Topics-Generational Studies Option
Choose One:
1-What do you think are three important values or pieces of advice that need to be passed on to the youngest generation, Generation Z? How did you come to learn these, and why are they important enough to be passed along? Be specific and give strong supporting details and examples.
2-Does one generation have a moral responsibility to the one which succeeds and/or precedes it? If yes, how so and why? Meaning, if you are a Millennial, for instance, do you believe that Gen X “owed” you anything? Wisdom? Instruction? Care? If so, why? Also, then, if you are a Millenial and do believe this, then you can make the same argument for a responsibility to Gen Z, right? The theme here is one of moral responsibility, not a financial one. Discuss these ideas in a well-developed essay. Be specific and give strong supporting details and examples.
3- What have you learned of importance about your generation and about you in particular through this assignment? They can be positive, negative or a discussion of both sides. How will it affect you from now on? Discuss at least three revelations. Be specific and give strong supporting details and examples.
Keep in mind:
-Diction. Avoid those vague, lazy words. You should know them by now!
-Grammar matters. Check for sentence fragments. Check for missing word endings. Do not just reread…proofread!
-Give that essay a meaningful title. “Essay Project #3” in unacceptable; that would be like naming your dog, “Dog” or your child, “Child”. Give it as much thought as you would anything else you are submitting.
-Have a strong Thesis Statement. Like lazy words, I really should not have to discuss this any further at this point.
-Everything in the paper should be important, an important point, important support, the best of the best; you never want a reader to look up and say, “so what?” You want them to look up and say, “oh!”, “that was interesting,” “I learned from this!” and even “wow, you’re smart!” J
-I’ve said it before: everything you put your name to is a statement on who you are. I hope this matters to you all from the moment you put your name on the paper.
