The bridge to be placed over the Canal as illustrated is to have consist of post-tensioned concrete deck sections and is illustrated in elevation below.
It contains 10 tendons of identical profile each comprising 20 strands of area 150mm2 each.
It has been determined that the deck is to be jacked from both ends by multi-strand jacks in sequence, to a tension of 38,000 kN
You can assume that the friction coefficient is 0.18 and the wobble coefficient is 0.015/m.
Based on this information and the data given below, you are required to:
(i) determine the total loss of prestress force due to friction
(ii) determine the total loss of prestress force due to elastic deformation
at both sections 2 and 3
