Ch 9 Questions1.) Piggybacking is the name given to intentionally accessing a wireless network without the operators consent. Piggybacking is not ethical because you are using a computer network you do not have permission to use, and you are using network bandwidth and an internet connection that is not yours to use. The neighbor could enable security features on his wireless router such as WPA-2 PSK which would encrypt the wireless communication, and only allow connections to those who know the password (pre shared key).2.) Possessed Knowledge system is a way of proving ones identity to gain access to a computer system or network based on the possessions of knowledge that only you would know. You might have used a possessed knowledge system if you have ever forgotten your password to a website and been prompted to answer security questions you had previously setup in order to change it. Often these questions are things like, what was the name of your elementary school, or name of your favorite pet. One advantage of these systems is that they are usually easy for people to use because it's based on something we already remember instead of something difficult and arbitrary like along complex password. A disadvantage of these systems is that the information is often not that difficult for someone else to guess or find out about us if for instance they have access to our social medial profile.3.) A firewall is a device that prevents intrusion from one network into another, most often a firewall is deployed between the internet and a private internal business or home network. The firewall works by blocking incoming connection requests unless they are specifically allowed for a particular application and host. I would definitely agree to have a firewall. A firewall is an essential network security measure. Without a firewall in place the internal network is vulnerable to attack, and snooping from anyone on the internet. 4.) Encryption and decryption work by using complex algorithms to make data unreadable except to someone who has the key to decode it. Encryption helps archive security when we must send information across an untrusted network like the internet where it could be intercepted and read. When we use encryption the information is encoded so it cannot be read except by the recipient who has a key to decode it. 5.) Phishing is the name given to a type of scam where an attacker crafts an email message designed to trick you into divulging personal information such as account passwords, banking or credit information, or which attempts to infect your computer with malware by tricking you into clicking on a link to a compromised website. For example a phishing email might appear to be a document shared from a college or a friend, but in fact the sender is forged, and the "document" is malware that will infect your computer. You can protect yourself from phishing by applying critical thinking any time your receive email, pay close attention to the sender and look for any warnings or alerts from your email program. Don't open unsolicited attachments, or links in email messages.6.) Cyber bullying is online harassment often involving disparaging comments posted to social media meant to embarrass or demean the victim in front of an audience of their peers. Cyberstalking is the stealthy observation of a victim and collection of the victims personal information. It may involve attempts to break into the victims social media, email and other accounts with the intent of gaining more information through access to messages and pictures stored in online accounts. 7.)
