how to reference properly

Question

Overview
The purpose of this assignment is to learn about source criticism and how to reference properly. The aim is also to make you aware of political events in the English-speaking world.

Instructions

For this assignment you are to read a news article in English and comment on it. Make sure that your chosen text is not an opinion piece, a blog post, an interview or a feature story.

- Go to the politics section in the online newspaper The Guardian and pick out an article about an event that has taken place in the US or in Britain. If politics is not your cup of tea, you are free to chose an article on a theme which suits you better.

- The article should be at least 600 words long and less than two weeks old.

- Write a summary of the article so that it is clear what the topic is. This part must be limited to 150 words, so make sure that what you write is relevant.

- Analyse the article to decide if the journalist is biased and give examples by quoting the article. Use the skills that you have learned in the preparatory assignment, to see if the journalist's personal views shine through. This part should be 200-300 words long, but quotes do not count towards that number.

- Remember to make a "list of sources" at the end of your document, where you include the journalist's name, the title of the article and the URL to where the article is found.
