The Essential Role of Stakeholders in Organizational Communication
Stakeholders are an essential group—actually, multiple groups. Stakeholders should be considered in every assignment for the DHA program. The Week 3 required readings make numerous valuable contributions to the understanding of the essential role of stakeholders. A solid definition of a stakeholder is an "individual or group that has an interest in any decision or activity of an organization." Internal stakeholders are those already committed to serving your organization as board members, staff, volunteers, and donors. External stakeholders engage by contributing their views and experiences in addressing issues important to them as patients, service users, vendors, and members of the local community. The major stakeholders in the healthcare system include patients, physicians, staff, employers, insurance companies, pharmaceutical firms, and the government. In many instances, it would be wise to consider the media as an external stakeholder. A Higher Perspective on Encouraging Speech: "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." — Holy Bible, New International Version (UK), Ephesians 4:29
